Careers in Opera: 21
st
-Century Skills
Through opera learning, students develop unique skills that are critical for 21st-century success:
problem solving, collaboration, curiosity, communication and creativity. OPERA America is
dedicated to providing resources to help students explore these essential 21
st
-century skills, as
well as opportunities to discover exciting careers within the art form itself.
A singer is certainly one of the most common careers associated with opera. But in fact,
there are dozens, sometimes hundreds, of people that play a critical role in producing
every opera performance. Many people and departments within an opera company are all
working together toward a common goal, and each part is equally important to the process.
