Biography
Critical acclaim has followed MARSHALL COID in his multi-faceted career as countertenor, violinist, actor and composer. He has appeared as soloist in all of New York City's major halls, and in festivals and concert series world wide. He was countertenor soloist for the Kennedy Center's tenth anniversary production of Leonard Bernstein's "Mass" on PBS-TV. He was the violin and countertenor soloist for Lincoln Center's production of "Twelfth Night", broadcast nationwide on "Live from Lincoln Center."

Marshall Coid graduated from The Juilliard School in 1979. Since the inception of The Queen's Chamber Band in 1996, he has served as Composer-In-Residence contributing 7 works for QCB's annual NYC series under commission from HU. The Oak Ridge Symphony, New York Pro Arte Chamber Orchestra & Odyssey Chamber Players among others have also performed his concert music.

1991: Lincoln Center commissions Coid to create "In Deep" for the LC Out of Doors Festival. He arranges music for LC Theatre's production of "The Philadelphia Story."

1993: Broadway director Tom O'Horgan stages Coid's opera "The Bundle Man" (Downtown Music Productions commission) at Theatre for the New City. Coid wins critical acclaim both for score & performance in title role.

1998: Coid wins Goliard Ensemble's Annual Composer Residency, taking him throughout the Eastern US as performer & teacher of composition & voice.

2000: "Whitman Cantata" wins Dessoff Choirs 75th Anniversary Invitational Composers Competition & premiers in Alice Tully Hall.

Coid's extensive theatrical experience includes scoring &/or serving as musical director for Soho Rep, Ensemble Studio Theatre, Circle Rep, Jewish Rep, Oxford University, John Jay College, Belgium International Performers Festival & 4 productions for Repertorio Espanol.. His musical theatre piece "Here On This Hill" won presentations at Emerging Artists Theatre, NYC in 2007 & Chicago "Stages" Musical Theatre Festival in 2008.

Coid's dance scores include several collaborations with Catherine Tharin, drawing on their shared experiences with Erick Hawkins. Tharin was one of Hawkins' solo dancers and Coid has performed as violin soloist for the Hawkins company for almost two decades. Together they carry forward Hawkins' esthetic that mandates dance with live music as sine qua non. In collaboration with the stilt ballet duo Friends in High Places, Coid created "The Tangoed Web," performed by Downtown Music Productions and Quintet of the Americas.

Marshall Coid's concert music has been performed by the New York Pro Arte Chamber Orchestra, Helios, Odyssey Chamber Players, Infusion, Rosewood Chamber Ensemble, The Queen's Chamber Band and the Oak Ridge Symphony. The Craftsbury Chamber Players have performed his music and presented him in composition master classes in their Summer Youth Program. He appears annually on the Diller-Quaille School's "Rug Concerts" Series and each year composes a new finale piece for Young Audiences. He has been Composer-in-Residence and Countertenor Soloist with The Queen's Chamber Band since the group's inception in 1992. Currently Marshall performs as the onstage violin soloist for the Broadway production of "Chicago."

In May of 2010, Harpsichord Unlimited presented a concert of Marshall Coid's music in the annual New Music for the Band concert, marking the end of the concert season. Under Marshall's direction, the Band and guest artists performed Dance Sonata for Solo Violin (with solo dancer from Erick Hawkins Company; *String Quartet; *City-Scape for the Queen's Chamber Band; Tempest Songs; and,Vampire Cantata.
