Biography Composer Lori Laitman has been described as “one of the most talented and intriguing of living composers” by Fanfare Magazine. She has composed multiple operas and choral works, and over 300 songs, setting texts by classical and contemporary poets. She graduated magna cum laude from Yale College, earned her Master of Music from The Yale School of Music, and received the Ian Mininberg Alumni Award for Distinguished Service in 2018.
Commissions have come from the BBC and The Royal Philharmonic Society, Opera America, Opera Colorado, Seattle Opera, Grant Park Music Festival, Washington Master Chorale, Music of Remembrance, and the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra. Her music is performed worldwide including at Wigmore Hall, The Concertgebouw, The Kennedy Center, Lincoln Center and more. Her works have been featured on Thomas Hampson’s Song of America radio, Internet series and website, and in The Grove Dictionary of American Music. Her discography is extensive and has garnered exceptional praise.
Performances in 2022 include the premiere of Uncovered, a chamber opera with Leah Lax to be directed by Beth Greenberg; Indianapolis Opera's presentation of her Holocaust oratorio Vedem paired with Krasa's Brundibar; Opera Steamboat's production of The Three Feathers, her fairy tale opera with Dana Gioia; and two university productions of The Scarlet Letter, to David Mason's libretto.
