John Austin

Biography
John Austin is one of Chicago’s most well-known and performed composers and has received grants from the McDowell Colony, the American Music Center, the Composers Conference and the Harris Foundation. His primary teachers were Roy Harris, Robert Lombardo, and Ralph Shapey.Christine Froula, librettist, is a professor of interdisciplinary modernism and 19th- and 20th-century literature at Northwestern University. A former Guggenheim Fellow, she has published A Guide to Ezra Pound’s Selected Poems, To Write Paradise: Style and Error in Pound’s Cantos, and Virginia Woolf and the Bloomsbury Avant-Garde among many others.
