Biography Jeremy Howard Beck's music has been performed across the country: at the 25th annual Bang on a Can Marathon; MYTHOS, a concert benefiting Education Through Music-Los Angeles (California); the Bang on a Can Summer Festival at MASSMoCA (Massachusetts); the International Trombone Festival (Austin, Texas); the Norfolk Chamber Music Festival (Connecticut); and New York venues Symphony Space, The Cell, Galapagos Art Space, The Tank, and the Gershwin Hotel. He is the recipient, for his trombone quartet Awakening, of a 2011 ASCAP Morton Gould Young Composer Award, and his first symphony, Metropolis, was awarded Honorable Mention in the 2010 ASCAP/CBDNA Frederick Fennell Prize competition. Recent commissions include chamber works for the Gaudete Brass Quintet, the Guidonian Hand, and Choral Chameleon, and an evening-length opera based on Brian Castner’s acclaimed memoir The Long Walk: A Story of War and the Life that Follows for American Lyric Theater. An active trombonist, he performed with TILT Brass in SuperCriticalMass’s SWELTER at the Central Park Lake as part of Make Music New York, and plays regularly with the Chelsea Symphony. He is the first Composer-in-Residence of the Guidonian Hand trombone quartet, whose recording of Awakening is available on iTunes, Amazon, and bandcamp.
