Heskel Brisman

Biography
Heskel Brisman was born in 1923. He studied at the Julliard School of Music and at Yale University. Among his teachers of composition were Richard Donovan, Quincy Porter, Paul Hindemith, Ernst Toch and Luigi Dallapiccola. Prior to settling in Israel, Brisman lived in Italy where hea composed music for documentary films (including the 1961 Berlin Festival Prize-winner, "I Vecchi") and executed several commissions for concert works, amongst which is the Concerto for Piano and String Orchestra.

Works of his have been performed in New York, at the Berkshire Music Centre, in Rome, Milan, etc. and include: an opera "The Three Strangers;" the Concerto for Piano and String Orchestra; Divertimento for orchestra; cantatas; chamber music; and incidental music for plays performed in the United States and Canada ("Liliom", "The Wall", etc.).
