Biography Carla Lucero is originally from Los Angeles. Her mother is from India, and her father is Spanish American. She studied composition at CalArts. Her love for opera drew her to San Francisco, where WUORNOS, her first opera, premiered at Yerba Buena Center for the Arts. Her second opera, JUANA, will premiere at UCLA, for their Centennial in November 2019. Carla’s third opera, TOUCH, is about blind/deaf American icon, Helen Keller. A scene from TOUCH was performed by West Edge Opera in 2016. In 2015, she was commissioned to write Castillo Interior for chamber ensemble, Earplay, commemorating their 30th anniversary. Carla is US Director of ComuArte International, and is on the faculty of Academy of Art University. She has received support from the following organizations for her work: SF Arts Commission, Creative Work Fund, Mexico City Philharmonic, Contemporary Music Festival of Havana, Zellerbach and Getty Foundations, Meet the Composer, Earplay, West Edge Opera, UCLA and many others.
