Biography
Izzi Ramkissoon is an award-winning electro acoustic multimedia composer, performer, and audio-visual artist. He has written works for a variety of media including theater, dance, installations, alternative controllers, and interactive multimedia. His compositions deal extensively with the use of technology in composition and have been featured at SEAMUS, NYCEMF, NIME, SPARK, LUMEN, Look and Listen Festival, Black Maria Film + Video Festival, World Maker Faire, MATA Festival, Figment NYC, NYC Creative Tech Week, Italy, Norway, Greece, England, Mexico, Prague and numerous other venues and festivals, both nationally and internationally. In his work he fuses media, technology, IDM, hardcore, classical, musique concrete and various other resources to perform interactive, improvisatory, and experimental works.

As a performer, Izzi has featured work in venues such as The Public Theater, 3-Legged Dog, WNYC Greenspace, The Stone, Issue Project Room, Public Assembly, Littlefield, Judson Church, Abrons Art Center, Clemente Center, The Robert Miller Gallery, National Art Gallery, Soho Gallery for Digital Art, Des Moines Art Center, Virginia Museum of Fine Art, Newark Museum, Axiom Center for New and Experimental Media, The New York Hall of Science, Studio 54, CBGB's, and Webster Hall as well as Princeton University, Rutgers University, Tulane University, Syracuse University, Bennington College, Penn State University, NYU Skirball, Stony Brook University, CUNY Graduate Center, St. Cloud University, Bates College, Bard College, University of Minnesota, Ionian University (Greece), American University of Rome and more.

His research interest includes interactive multimedia music performance and composition, sensor networks, wireless interface design, multi modal haptic feedback, and music cognition. Some of his interactive projects include, the Beatnik, which is an interactive glove controller used for editing, pitch shifting, warping, glitching drum loops in a real-time performance setting and the Bass Sleeve, which is a gesture based controller interface for multimedia performance awarded a Blue Ribbon at World Maker Faire NYC 2010, selected as Make Magazine Editors Choice and was published by New Interfaces for Musical Expression (NIME) 2011, and Music Box, designed for Love Machine (2014), which uses a 6-channel multimedia system for lighting and sound controlled by an actors gestures,.

Izzi has earned degrees from the College of Staten Island majoring in both Electrical Engineering and Music with a focus on Music Technology and a Master's from NYU majoring in Music Technology. Currently, Izzi is serving on the New York Electro-Acoustic Music Festival Steering Committee, acting as the Director of the Music Technology Program at the College of Staten Island, teaching 100-400 level undergraduate music technology courses at CSI CUNY, giving guest lectures and performances at various universities, and performing with various electronic music groups as a solo artist and musician.
