Antonio Marchi
Librettist
Biography
Antonio Marchi was an Italian librettist, in the early 18th century. Composers such as Vivaldi and Handel used his works in their operas.

Little is known about Marchi's life. Between 1692 and 1725 he wrote eight librettos for Venetian opera houses which were set to music by Albinoni and Vivaldi.

Marchi had no great poetic ambitions, but a good feeling for theatrically effective dialogues and actions. When working on historical material, he did not shy away from deviating from the traditional sources.
