Charles Eakin

Biography
Charles Eakin is well-known for his musical-theatre compositions. He has, however, composed in many media, including chamber music, electronic music, voice, large and small ensembles, and a series of works for solo instruments and for orchestra. His music is performed nationally and internationally including recitals in West Germany, England, and Mexico. He was a bass player in the Houston and New Orleans Orchestras, coming to Colorado in 1964. Eakin is a professor emeritus at the College of Music at the University of Colorado at Boulder. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from the Manhattan School of Music in 1950, a Master of Arts in musicology from Carnegie Mellon University in 1955, and the Doctor of Philosophy degree from the University of Minnesota in 1964. He was also a former faculty member at the University of Minnesota and Baylor University.
