Biography Raised in the Philippines and California, Janine Joseph holds a B.A. from the University of California, Riverside, an MFA from New York University, and a Ph.D. from the University of Houston, where she was a poetry editor for Gulf Coast: A Journal of Literature and Fine Arts. A Kundiman fellow and contributing editor for Tongue: A Journal of Writing and Art, Janine is the recipient of a Paul and Daisy Soros Fellowship for New Americans, an Inprint/Barthelme Fellowship in Poetry, a Cynthia Woods Mitchell Center Fellowship for Collaboration Among the Arts, a PAWA Manuel G. Flores Prize, an Academy of American Poets prize, a Dissertation Completion Fellowship, and other honors.
Janine has taught creative writing in the community with Writers in the Schools, Community~Word Project, and the Starworks Foundation. She currently lives in Ogden, UT and is an Assistant Professor of English at Weber State University.
Her debut collection, Driving Without a License, winner of the 2014 Kundiman Poetry Prize, is forthcoming in spring 2016 from Alice James Books.
