Biography
Marc Neikrug has enjoyed an international career as a composer spanning more than three decades. He has written chamber music, symphonic music, music-theater, and opera. Major performances have taken place with the New York, Los Angeles and Buffalo Philharmonics, as well as the symphonies in Pittsburgh, Houston, Atlanta, Cincinnati, New World (Miami), St. Louis, Washington DC, Chicago, Utah, Dallas, Phoenix, New Mexico, the Minnesota and Cleveland orchestras, and the chamber orchestras of St. Paul and Los Angeles. Among noted performers of his music are Zubin Mehta, Lorin Maazel, Christoph Eschenbach, Christoph von Dohnanyi, Alan Gilbert, David Zinman, Leonard Slatkin, Lawrence Foster, Oliver Knussen, James Galway, Pinchas Zukerman, Maximilian Schell, John Turturro, and the Emerson, Vermeer, Tokyo, Orion, and FLUX string quartets.

Recent and upcoming commissioned premieres include Symphony No. 4 by the NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchester, Concerto for Guitar by soloist Lukasz Kuropaczewski and the Philharmonic Orchestra of Marseille (commissioned by the Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra), Piano Quintet No. 2 by the Dover Quartet and pianist Haochen Zhang, and the chamber opera A Song by Mahler by a consortium of Chamber Music Northwest, the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, La Jolla Music Society, and the Lake Champlain Chamber Music Festival (with additional performances by the Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival and the Royal Conservatory in Toronto).

Since its premiere in 1980, his music-theater work Through Roses (commissioned by London's South Bank Festival with the National Theater) has had hundreds of performances in fifteen countries and has been translated into 11 languages.

Since 1998, Neikrug has served as artistic director of the Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival. An internationally renowned pianist, for 35 years he performed and recorded with violinist Pinchas Zukerman.
