Biography Rainer Mennicken grew up in Dortmund , where he attended elementary school, high school and community service. After five semesters of Germanic, philosophy and theater history at the Ruhr-University Bochum and a few internships and assistantships (among others at the Schauspielhaus Bochum during the artistic director Peter Zadek ) he received in 1974 his first engagement as a dramaturge at the Theatre of the City Theater Dortmund . This was followed by stations in the same capacity and with expanded roles (director, festival organization) to the Westphalian Kammerspiele Paderborn , at the Mannheim National Theatre the National Theatre of Tübingen , at the Freiburg Theater , at the State Theater in Kassel - the latter two in close collaboration with director Manfred Beilharz .
In 1987 he joined as a managing editor at the spectacle of Frankfurt (Artistic Director Günther Rühle , where he among other things, Einar Schleef and Peter Palitzsch worked. Here he organized in 1990, together with Tom Stromberg, the Experimenta "6", a festival of the German Academy of Performing Arts to life's work of Heiner Müller .
In 1991 he followed for two years Manfred Beilharz to the spectacle of Bonn . There he took on the task, together with playwright Tankred Dorst shape 1992, the first Bonn Biennale, a festival for new plays from Europe.
In 1993 he became the successor of Ulrich Khuon as director of City Theatre Konstanz on. In the city of Constance in 1997, he established a new TRIANGLE Festival for Children and Young People from the neighboring countries of Austria, Switzerland and Germany and realized in 2000 with NEW SCENE, an international program of the current drama. He also founded the Cultural Festival of Constance.
In 2001, Mennicken the office of general director at the Oldenburg State Theatre . Here he expanded the range of programming to the new venue as well as the Holland TRAVEL week "Cultuur!" 2004, and introduced the genre of children's opera in the repertoire. He also constituted in collaboration with the landscape Oldenburg Oldenburg, the country's cultural festival.
In 2006 he joined as director of the National Theatre in Linz in Upper Austria. For the Linz Cultural Capital in 2009 resulted in a series of special projects in collaboration with the leadership of Linz09 . Again, he intensified the activity on theater for young audiences, explaining the musical theater for young audiences as an integral part of the game plan.
Mennicken is a member of the Federal Republican Centre of International Theatre Institute and the German Academy of Performing Arts . He participated in the jury work under the other Mülheim Dramatists Prize , the Premio Stregagatto in Rome and the Bavarian Theater days .
