Biography Michele Lowe is a playwright, lyricist, and librettist. She was Artist-in-Residence at the 2017 Sundance Theatre Lab with her play The Greatest. She's currently at work on two musicals: The Proxy Marriage with Adam Gwon and Split a commission for Transport Group's 20th Century Project with Zoe Sarnak.
Michele received the Francesca Primus Prize for her play Inana and was a finalist for the Susan Smith Blackburn Prize. Both Inana and Victoria Musica were finalists for the American Theater Critic's Association/Steinberg New Play Award, which marked the first time in the ATCA's 33-year history that a playwright was nominated for two plays in one season.
Michele is the author of The Smell of the Kill (Broadway debut), String of Pearls (Outer Critics nomination), Map of Heaven, Mezzulah 1946, Backsliding in the Promised Land, and A Thousand Words Come to Mind, which she co-wrote with composer Scott Davenport Richards.
Her plays have been produced/developed by Sundance Institute, Primary Stages, Vineyard Theatre, Le Pepiniere (Paris), Williamstown Theater Festival, Rhinebeck Writers Retreat, New York Stage and Film, O'Neill National Music Theater Conference, Lark, Colorado New Play Summit, PlayLabs, and Hedgebrook.
Michele is a graduate of Northwestern University's Medill School of Journalism. She serves on the faculty of the Dramatist Guild Institute, ESPA, and Play Penn. Michele lives in New York and coaches writers, clergy and political candidates. www.michelelowe.net
