Biography Juanita Rockwell is a playwright, librettist, lyricist, songwriter, and director with over 100 projects in theatre, opera, radio, multimedia, puppetry, music theater, dance theater and site-specific performance presented on four continents. Produced writing includes: The World is Round (opera libretto, composer James Sellars, available from Hog River Music); Between Trains (play with songs, composer Chas Marsh, Mobtown Studios Recording); Playing Dead (trans. from Bros. Presnyakov, published by the Center for International Theatre Development); and The Circle (audio play at banishedproductions.bandcamp.com). For six years she was artistic director of Hartford's Company One Theater, directing premieres of work by America's leading experimental playwrights; and was founding director of Towson University's M.F.A. in Theatre, a rigorous laboratory environment training the total theatremaker. Awards and grants include: the 2016-2017 Marion Fellowship in the Visual and Performing Arts, a 2015 Rubys Artist Project Grant, a Fulbright in Costa Rica, and funding from the National Endowment for the Arts and National Public Radio. Writing residencies include: Ucross (WY), Studios at Key West (FL), Playa (OR) and a Scientific Delirium Madness residency at Djerassi (CA).
