Biography
Aryeh Lev Stollman's first novel, The Far Euphrates (Riverhead/Penguin Putnam Inc.) is an American Library Association Notable Book of 1997, a Los Angeles Times Book Review Recommended Book of the Year and National Book Critics Circle Notable Book of 1997. The New York Times Book Review has called The Far Euphrates "radiant . . . remarkable both for Stollman's eloquently understated prose and for the ease with which he constructs his artful plot." The Far Euphrates has been translated into German (Kindler), Dutch (Meulenhoff), Italian (Marsilio), Portuguese (Betrand Brasil) and Hebrew (Sifriat Ma'ariv).

His second novel, The Illuminated Soul (Riverhead), is a winner of Hadassah Magazine's 2003 Harold U. Ribalow Prize. The Boston Sunday Globe called The Illuminated Soul, "an admirable novel of ideas . . . profound." The Illuminated Soul has been translated into German (Droemer), Dutch (Meulenhoff), and Italian (Mondadori).

Stollman's short fiction has appeared in Story, American Short Fiction, The Yale Review, and The Southwest Review. His story collection The Dialogues of Time and Entropy (Riverhead) was published in February 2003. In 2003 he also received the first Chaim Potok Literary Award.

His story "Lotte Returns!" was commissioned and broadcast by National Public Radio.

Stollman has written the libretto for Awakenings, an opera composed by Tobias Picker, based on the book by Oliver Sacks, and commissioned by Opera Theatre of Saint Louis, to be premiered on June 5, 2022.

Stollman is working on his second libretto for Tobias Picker's latest opera, Lili Elbe, commissioned by Theater St. Gallen, Switzerland, to be premiered October 21, 2023.

His third novel, Queen of Jerusalem, has just been published in Spring 2020 by Aryeh Nir/Modan in Hebrew translation under the title ???? ??? ????.
