Synopsis
When Apollo offers Cassandra the gift of prophecy for bestowing her sexual favors on him, she asks that he recind the gift when she sees scenes of future bloodshed and destruction. He punishes her by ensuring that she can see the future but will be believed by nobody. The work then traces the horrific consequences of her decision through the downfall of Troy, her capture by Agamemnon, and her eventual death at the hands of Clytemnestra, Agamemnon's wife.
