Twilight Voices
Composer:Stanley M. Hoffman
Librettist:Darlene LeFaive
Synopsis
In the Casa di Riposo (the retirement home for musicians established by Verdi in Milan) in 1921, five opera singers struggle with aging--physical and mental deterioration, fear of death, unresolved shame, memories of abuse, and unrequited love. Two, who were attracted to each other in their youth but married others, are finally able to release their pasts enough to open to each other. News of their esteemed colleague Caruso's death shocks all of them into realizing that life is indeed good and full of hope.
