Synopsis
The Gift of the Magi is the story of Jim and Della, a star-crossed but penniless young couple on Christmas Eve. Yearning to express their love, she sacrifices her long, lustrous hair while he pawns his father's heirloom pocket-watch in order to buy one another special gifts. Ironically, she buys him a gold chain for the watch and he, ornate combs for her hair. They are joined in their adventures by Maggie, Della's impetuous and superstitious friend, and Jim's gruff but sentimental mentor Henry. An offstage chorus comments upon the human foibles on display. In the end, the lovers discover the profound meaning of their actions in this romantic tale.
