Synopsis
In a Puritan village, Brown tells his wife Faith he must make a journey. In the forest he meets Scratch, who tells Brown about his (the devil's) long acquaintance with New Englanders. Brown wants to back out, but when he sees Faith's ribbon fall, he is ready to accept the devil. At an infernal communion with prominent community members, he tells Faith to resist and is immediately back in his village, where he can no longer trust anyone.
