Synopsis
Zabette tells the story of Elizabeth Bernardey, a woman of mixed African and French descent, who became a plantation nurse and mistress of Robert Stafford, a 19th-century cotton planter on Georgia's Cumberland Island. It is the story of her passionate struggle for recognition in a world which enslaved and restricted non-whites at every turn.
