Bellini's War
Composer:Steven Paxton
Librettist:William Wenthe
Synopsis
In World War II, a group of Italian Prisoners of War are sent to a lonely spot in the Texas Panhandle. There, half-starved by an overzealous prison commander, they craft a lasting relationship through art with the parishoners of St. Mary's Church in the small town of Umbarger, Texas. The musical drama, BelliniÆs War, focuses on a young Italian Captain, fiercely loyal to his sense of duty as he learns that principles cannot exist apart from the humanity of the people around him.
