Hopscotch: A Mobile Opera
Composer:Veronika Krausas
Librettist:Tom Jacobson
Throughout HOPSCOTCH, audiences are taken on a ride to an unknown destination, with action unfolding both inside the car and on the streets.  Each car ride is a different chapter of one master narrative, told in a non-chronological sequence from car to car, exploring themes of time, memory, and perception.  In the climactic finale, the solitude of driving transforms into an ecstatic vision of community in Los Angeles.

Four audience members at a time experience the opera in the intimacy of the car – but everyone can experience Hopscotch for free at the Central Hub.

All 24 journeys throughout Los Angeles will be live-streamed to a temporary structure at SCI-Arc, the Southern California Institute of Architecture.

The dazzling panorama of simultaneous life in Los Angeles will be experienced with Sennheiser’s Guideport technology, allowing you to focus on any one of the 24 chapters.

The Central Hub is also the site of the Finale, performed once a day, where all of the car journeys converge. The solitude of driving transforms into an ecstatic vision of community in Los Angeles.
