Synopsis
A contemporary Zarzuela (musical drama)
Mexico at the turn of the century. A young Xochil Indian girl falls desperately in love with a man of Spanish lineage, angering he great Xochil river. Twenty years later she is married, and the river takes its revenge upon her. Her husband betrays her, she goes mad, and the river torments her until she sacrifices her only child, Sara. She will forever weep. La Llorona is Part I of Armienta’s trilogy, Aguas Ancestrales/Ancient Waters.
