Synopsis
The actors of Ford's Theater, among them John Wilkes Booth, assemble backstage. Rehearsal tension and intrigue erupt into a scuffle among the actors. Managing actress Laura Keene restores order and introduces President Lincoln to the theater audience as the curtain rises. The comic play provokes merriment and reverie, voiced in the Lincoln asides. At the moment of romantic denouement, Booth's gunshot sends the audience into a panic. Soldiers arrest the actors, leaving Laura Keene on her empty stage.
