Synopsis
Based on a true incident, Giacomo Puccini's wife, Elvira, imagines an affair between her husband and their servant, Doria Manfredi. After dismissing the young girl, Elvira makes her life in the village so intolerable that Doria eventually commits suicide. After a trial in which Elvira is sentenced to prison for driving Doria to suicide, Puccini persuades Doria's parents to drop their lawsuit by giving them 12,000 lire.
