Why I Live at the P.O.
Composer:Stephen Eddins
Librettist:Michael O'Brien
Synopsis
The opera is a comic portrait of an eccentric southern family set in the 1940s. Sister, the postmistress of China Grove, Mississippi, has the serenity of her life shattered when her sister, Stella-Rondo, comes home from her brief marriage to Sister's former beau, and re-ignites deep sibling rivalries. Through her lies and insinuations, Stella-Rondo turns Mama, Pappa-Daddy, and Uncle Rondo against Sister. In exasperation, Sister gathers her possessions and moves into the post office, where she can live in peace.
