Synopsis
Based on the iconic Canadian Novel by Anne Hébert. In an episodic style that jumps back and forth in time, Hébert transports us to rural Quebec through heroine Elisabeth, who recalls her tumultuous life: an abusive first husband (the seigneur of Kamouraska), an adulterous affair with a visiting American doctor and attending the deathbed of her second husband. We witness a woman's need to break free from an existential straitjacket while being thwarted by her conscience and the pressures of a patriarchal society.
