The Jealousy Scene
Composer:Giacomo Antonio Domenico Michele Seconodo Maria Puccini
Librettist:Marvin Rosenberg
Synopsis
The scene is the San Francisco Opera, but it can be anywhere. It is touching and funny. The opera manager has assigned the role of Tosca to a striking young singer. But when a famous diva offers to sing the role, the manager unfairly and unkindly eliminates the young singer. The diva comes so she can sing with the famous tenor assigned to the male role, with whom she is hoping for a relationship. It is possible for one singer, if a good and eager actress, to sing both soprano roles. The singers practice their voices and sing in several rehearsals: ^sitz probe`, piano rehearsal, and dress rehearsal, among other authentic touches. The young soprano has a man friend, assistant to the manager, who sees that it all works out as we want it to.
