Eileen
Composer:Victor August Herbert
Librettist:Henry Blossom
Synopsis
Eileen is the niece of Lady Maude, a widowed woman who is causing resentment among the Irish locals for having an affair with Castle Sligo. Their carriage breaks down and they stop at the Biddy's Black Bull Inn, the same place a band of smugglers is hiding its loot. When village drunks attack Eileen and Lady Maude they are protected by one of the smugglers, Barry O'Day. Each of the women fall in love with him through the comedic tale, helping him and each other out of various tight spots. Barry and Eileen wind up together and it is declared that "Ireland shall stand among all nations of the world."
