Sarah and Hagar
Composer:Gerald Cohen
Librettist:Charles Kondek
Synopsis
Sarah, wife of Abraham, is barren. She has the idea of having her servant and companion, Hagar, conceive a child with Abraham so that Sarah and Abraham can have an heir. Hagar conceives and gives birth to Ishmael, but later Sarah herself becomes pregnant and gives birth to her own son, Isaac. This situation alters the relationships of all the characters, creating new tensions and forcing them to make difficult decisions about their lives and those of their children.
