Lulu, Le Chant Souterrain
Composer:Alain Thibault
Librettist:Yan Muckle
Lulu is a mythical archetype like Don Juan or Faust and one of the most powerful emblematic figures of the 20th century. To discover what Lulu still has to tell us from a 21st-century viewpoint, the composer and librettist have distanced themselves from the historical versions of the work. The image of a woman at grips with her passion and lustfully incarnating the empire of the senses has been set in a more modern context in which the moral notions of good and evil have changed somewhat. But has the world changed that much? The quest for power, desire, solitude, disarray, and violence, under its new garments, still remain universal realities.
