Blind Injustice
Composer:Scott D Richards
Librettist:David Cote
Blind Injustice is a new opera composed by Scott Davenport Richards to a libretto by David Cote, directed by Robin Guarino. The opera was commissioned and given its world premiere by Cincinnati Opera. Its story is based on real stories of six people who were wrongfully convicted and ultimately exonerated. Based on the acclaimed book Blind Injustice by Mark Godsey, co-founder of the Ohio Innocence Project, the opera is a blend of documentary and drama, asking and showing how such tragic miscarriages of justice can happen. Its musical and lyrical influences include jazz, minimalism, hip-hop and gospel. Twelve principal roles and a chorus are accompanied by a 12-piece chamber ensemble to explore how a combination of human failure and flaws in the criminal justice system can send innocent people to prison for years.
