Synopsis
On September 3, 1609, the Half Moon, captained by Henry Hudson, sailed into a magnificent New World river harbor. First mate Robert Jouet wrote in his journal, “The land is very pleasant and high, and bold to fall withal.” The Half Moon spent four weeks on the river (now Hudson River). Gary S. Fagin's "And Bold To Fall Withal," for tenor and orchestra, describes Hudson's journey in four parts: Departure - recounting the excitement and anticipation of discovery in Europe in 1609 Terra Continens - describing the majesty of the great river harbor on the other side of the Atlantic Ocean Arrival - the wonder, and the tragedy, of the first encounters between the Half Moon and the great river harbor’s inhabitants Epilogue - what the historic events of September – October 1609 wrought
