Synopsis
"Good Trouble" examines one of the seminal issues of our time: racism,
how it divides us, corrodes the social fabric, and how we can band
together to fight its pernicious effects. The title is taken from a
quote of Civil Rights legend, U.S. Representative John Lewis (1940 –
2020), “Get in good trouble, necessary trouble, and help redeem the soul
of America.”
The
libretto is based on speeches and writings by Frederick Douglass;
Sojourner Truth; James Baldwin; Barbara Jordan; and John Lewis.
