Jumping Mouse
Composer:Gary Fagin
Librettist:Gary Fagin
Synopsis
"Jumping Mouse" is an opera in one act for children, based on a Native American myth. It traces the journey of a brave little mouse (soprano) who, upon hearing a roaring in her ears, sets out to investigate, despite the castigations of her fellow mice. Mouse encounters a wise Frog, who tells her about the Sacred Mountains; Two Old Mice, who try to dissuade her from crossing the dangerous Prairie; a Buffalo, who brings her across the Prairie to the foot of the Sacred Mountains; and a Wolf, who guides her to the Medicine Lake, where she drinks the lake's healing waters and transforms into an Eagle.
