Synopsis Mirra, princess of Cyprus, is to marry Pereus, Prince of Epirus. She
reveals strange, uncomfortable behavior, which no one can explain. She
is especially cold toward Pereus, who suspects that Mirra is trying to
avoid the impending wedding. The wedding ceremony begins, there is a
ballet in the temple, and Cinyras, the king, leads a procession. Mirra
appears delirious. Cinyras demands to know the reason for his daughter's
strange behavior. Finally, she breaks down and tells the king that it
is he whom she loves, not Pereus, who has killed himself. Cinyras flees
in horror, and Mirra stabs herself. Mirra dies, as her governess stands
over her, weeping.
