MISSION STATEMENT
Casta Diva: Stitch to Stage is committed to preserving and advancing the art of operatic costume design through historically informed craftsmanship, innovative construction techniques, and deep collaboration with performers and creative teams. As a child company of Casta Diva Inc., our mission is to bring couture-level artistry from the atelier to the stage—supporting opera companies with garments that are structurally engineered for vocal performance, visually compelling, and crafted to withstand the demands of rehearsal and production. We believe every costume should elevate character, strengthen storytelling, and uphold the highest standards of operatic excellence. Casta Diva: Stitch to Stage is the opera-focused design and production atelier under Casta Diva Inc., led by Opera Costume Designer & Producer Lelia Barton Chamberlain. With more than 30 years of experience in operatic and theatrical costuming, the company specializes in full-production wardrobe builds, principal and chorus costuming, historical reconstruction, and couture garments inspired by classical operatic silhouettes. As a child company of Casta Diva Inc., Stitch to Stage carries forward its parent company’s legacy of technical mastery and artistic refinement. The studio has produced costumes for opera companies including Baltimore Opera, Opera Columbus, Nevada Opera, Buffalo Opera, Syracuse Opera, Connecticut Opera (Hartford), Opera Memphis, Knoxville Opera, Chattanooga Opera, Madison Opera (WI), and numerous regional and touring productions. Casta Diva: Stitch to Stage is recognized for its expertise in: Vocalist-focused design — supportive, balanced, breathable, and movement-oriented construction Durability and engineering — garments built to withstand full rehearsal and performance runs Historically grounded craftsmanship — research-driven design rooted in period accuracy Operatic storytelling — using silhouette, texture, and detail to enhance character and drama From classical repertoire to contemporary productions, Stitch to Stage provides opera companies with couture-level support that bridges the artistry of costume creation with the practical demands of the stage.
