MISSION STATEMENT
Florida Grand Opera produces diverse, culturally engaging experiences both in the theater and in the community. The company preserves the art form by cultivating the next generation of opera audiences and singers. Florida Grand Opera, (FGO) America’s seventh-oldest opera company, has served the communities of Miami-Dade and Broward Counties since its founding as the Opera Guild of Greater Miami by Arturo di Filippi in 1941. Today, under the leadership of General Director and CEO Susan T. Danis, Florida Grand Opera (FGO) is one of the Southeast’s most vibrant performing arts organizations, presenting a
main-stage season of inspiring artistic depth and breadth. Over the past years, FGO has received outstanding publicity, reviews, and press from Opera News, Opera UK, Opera Canada, Opera Now, The South Florida Classical Review, The Miami Herald, and The Sun Sentinel.

Serving two regional patron bases, FGO performs at major theaters in both locations: the Ziff Ballet Opera House at the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts in Miami, and the Au-Rene Theatre at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts in Fort Lauderdale. FGO also stages productions at the Miami-Dade County Auditorium where Luciano Pavarotti made his North American debut in 1965.

Florida Grand Opera aims to be a driving force of cultural growth in South Florida through the presentation of the most comprehensive art form in the world – grand opera. Our world-class operatic productions are all-inclusive artistic offerings that incorporate powerful voices, inspired musical arrangements, entrancing dance, captivating set design, and more. We strive to bring each element of this multi-faceted spectacle to life on stage, having a positive impact on all related art forms in our community and beyond.

The company’s reach stands on four main pillars: artistic integrity, talent development, educational outreach, and technological innovation. Our artistic integrity hinges on offering a mixed operatic selection of classics as well as contemporary or new works, speaking to the diversity of our community while contributing to the development of the art form as a whole. We also aspire to foster young, promising talents through our Young Artist Studio program, contributing to a solid future for the tradition of opera. Our educational programs focus on opening young audiences to the wonders of classical music through multiple approaches – from in-classroom activities to full-scale performances. Staying at the forefront of technology and social media trends, we employ these to create a deeper level of engagement with our current audiences and connect with new ones.
