Synopsis
This one-act opera libretto by Anna Deeny Morales set to music by Brian Arreola presents the case of Natividad Zavala-Zavala, a 65-year-old Honduran woman who was separated from her seven-year-old grandson after crossing the Rio Grande in October, 2017. The case was one of several pilot programs carried out by the Trump administration that year along the Mexico-US border in El Paso, Texas. Such programs sought to evaluate the resilience of local juridical systems to the administration’s Zero Tolerance directive.
