The story is a spoof of Peter Shaffer's play Amadeus, in which the successful Antonio Salieri is shown to have destroyed Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, "a not so successful composer" out of jealousy. Salieri tries to poison Peter Schlafer, a mysterious writer, but ends up poisoning Mozart by mistake because of his bumbling servant, P.D.Q Bach.
