Running Man is a tale that concerns itself with family, race and morality. The main setting is a town somewhere on the Virginia coast, between the 1930's and the 1950's. As the poems (but not the play) open, Running Man is already dead, and his sisters, who now live in a city in the north, have just received the news of his passing. Running Man will return as a grown man, a child (Tommy), and a ghost.
