Synopsis
The setting is eleventh-century Kyoto. The story follows the exploits of Prince Genji, known as the "Shining Prince" and favorite son of the Emperor. Among the characters are the evil Kokiden, the loving Shonagon, the vengeful Lady Rokujo, the passionate Akashi, and the Crown Prince Suzaku. The score icorporates elements of traditional Asian music and twentieth-century Western techniques.
