Synopsis
he first part, "Winners," concerns two teenage lovers, Mag and Joe. When Mag becomes pregnant and the two face scorn from the community, they row out to the middle of a lake and drown. In the second, "Losers," two older lovers, Andy and Hanna, have trouble establishing a relationship with an interfering mother, Mrs. Wilson, and bothersome neighbors, Kate and her daughter, Cissie. They eventually wed but find unhappiness in their marriage. One of the musical and comedic highlights of the second part is the quintet, with Mrs. Wilson and the neighbors praying upstairs, and the would-be-couple kissing downstairs.
