Ariel is distressed because she has made a mistake during the first part of her recital. During intermission, she tries to pinpoint what could have caused the lapse, but she is unsuccessful, despite the reassurances of her friends and coaches. Before she goes on stage again she argues with her boyfriend, Sandy, but regains control of herself and faces the audience with more assurance.
