Enid and the Swans is an adaptation of the legendary Hans Christan Andersen's The Ugly Duckling, a formative story in the lives of many generations of children. In the Rolfe/Diamond adaptation, the ugly duckling is a young girl duck called Enid. Her mother is forced by the other ducks to abandon her peculiar daughter, who suffers various ordeals, eventually surviving einter by herself. She returns to her pond as a full-grown swan of exceptional grace, one who is embraced by her fellow swans, and accepted by the other animals.
