David Jex
Composer
Biography
David Jex was born in Toledo, Ohio in 1950. After beginning his musical studies as a jazz trumpet player he attended the University of Toledo where he studied trumpet with Bernard Sanchez and composition with Paul Schoenfield. He received his Bachelor of Music Magna Cum Laude in 1973. After achieving the Master of Music degree in 1975 at Bowling Greene State University he attended the Cleveland Institute of Music and Case Western Reserve University. He was awarded a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in 1978.
Dr. Jex was an Assistant Professor at Lycoming College in Williamsport, PA from 1978 till 1983. Since the Fall of 1983 Jex has been Assistant Professor of Music at the University of Toledo, teaching theory, jazz and composition classes. He is also co-director of the Toledo Composers Guild.
Dr. Jex remains active as trumpet player, performing in a variety of musical settings including also recitals, chamber ensembles, jazz combos, professional shows, bands and orchestras.
