Faustus
Composer:Roger Rudenstein
Librettist:Roger Rudenstein
Synopsis
This is a large scale work by an emerging American composer whose operas have stirred audiences in New York and New England. Faustus is a skeptical look at our contemporary society: where we have been and where we have headed. It is based on Goethe's Faust Parts 1 and 2 as well as Marlow's Tragical History of Doctor Faustus.

Faustus is a cycle of 3 operas based on the Faust legend. Faustus I transplants the legend to the United States of the 80's...Faustus, a city builder, is asked to build a city in the jungle for a dictator. Faustus II follows the story back in time to the 60's. Faustus III is set in today's post-9/11 world.
